Buffy The Vampire Slayer was originally a film written by Joss Whedon and released in 1992. The film was not a success, but it was revived as a TV series in 1997. The series ran for 7 years and spawned the spin off series Angel after it's 3rd series. Angel itself ran for 5 years.

The series have also spawned spin - off comics and novels.
